Description:

How do you engage every single employee and contractor on an induction day like no other? ATT's highly imaginative and immersive project for Tideway involves everyone as an active participant in an incident no-one was expecting. This absorbing and visceral experience leaves participants with a lasting understanding of their role in ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on the project. In feedback to date, over 95% of participants said they would be more confident in challenging poor health & safety practice, as a result of the induction.

Target group:

A one-day safety and wellbeing induction programme. Aimed at all employees on the £multi-billion Tideway Tunnel construction project in London, throughout its life cycle. An immersive, site-specific, theatre-based, interactive experience, designed by Active Training Team, which includes communication skills workshops tailored to the fictional storyline experienced by attendees on the day.

Subject matter:

Active Training Team create experiential and immersive training, in order to bring about behavioural change in people and organisations. People come away with a deep, lasting awareness of their responsibility for their own safety and that of colleagues, and the practical communication tools to make a difference. Our approach works with senior leaders and managers, operational and site staff, contractors, back office teams, partners and suppliers. EPIC: A DAY IN THE DEATH OF MICHAEL CLARK is a unique, groundbreaking programme and is the only site-specific project of this type currently running in the UK.

Background:

Thames Tideway Tunnel approached Active Training Team in 2014 to invite us to create a health, safety and wellbeing induction day experience which would be groundbreaking, innovative, immersive and deeply engaging. The resulting proposal was the initial blueprint for the EPIC live induction experience. Over the next year, ATT designed, wrote, filmed, built and produced the EPIC induction day and its setting. EPIC first session was piloted in June 2015. ATT have been running the EPIC induction day since then, garnering top-level engagement and feedback from Tideway HS&W and the Tideway employees themselves, as well as the approval of the construction industry safety leaders, within the UK and beyond.
